These days, a lot of high-paying jobs will ask you for a college degree. But with blue collar jobs, you will not need any college degree to get some of the highest paying jobs in the country.

You may not always be in the office and sit in a fully furnished office all the time. And that is okay, there are more important things you need as an ex convict. The first of which is a job that pays you well enough to take care of your needs and also keeps you away from crime.

The jobs you will find here are in high demand. And they pay higher than many white collar jobs in the country.

Locomotive Engineer

If you have a high school diploma, you can be a locomotive or train Engineer. This job will require you to operate different types of trains. And you may also need to work alongside other train road workers.

To qualify as a locomotive Engineer, you will need more than your high school diploma. There are tests you will need to pass—hearing, vision, drugs, skill, and knowledge tests. You may also need to go through certification training.

Average salary is almost $60,000 per annum.

Gas plant operator

Most of the vacancies for this job come from oil and utility companies. As a gas plant operator, you will be overseeing the way a company produces,  stores, and transports gas.

To get a job as a gas plant operator, you need a high school diploma or its equivalent. You will also need to complete a training program as this will help you survive the job’s hazards.

Average salary is about $78,000.

Elevator installer and repairer

Since elevators are now everywhere, it is easy to see why this is one of the highest-paying blue collar jobs. As an elevator installer and repairer, you will monitor control systems and look for any issues. The cables, doors, and every other component of an elevator will also need your attention.

To qualify for this job, you must complete a formal apprenticeship training program. During the program, you will learn all you need to get started on the job.

Average salary is almost $100,000.

Construction and building inspector

Felons have been known to do very well on this job. So you can confidently pick it up and learn all you need to start your career. As the name implies, your job will entail any process that ensures the stability of buildings.

With a high school diploma or its equivalent, you can get this job. All you need to do is get extra training by a certified institution. You will also need to pass certain exams and get a professional certificate through the International Code Council (ICC).

Average salary for this job is about $58,000.
